Model Test
The model is at a scale of 1:31.25, giving a model length of 6.2m. These tests are used to demonstrate the performance of the future vessels. The model is equipped with wave probes to measure wave heights at key locations, and accelerometers to measure ship motions and accelerations.
The model tests are part of a larger test program designed to test the hydrodynamic performance of the future vessels which also includes power, cavitation and wind tunnel testing. The test program is taking place at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), one of the world’s foremost maritime research institutes.

Marin 3
Close up of the state-of-the-art azimuthing propulsion pods. These units can rotate through 360 degrees to direct thrust in any direction, resulting in a highly manoeuvrable ship.
